Sidney Blumenthal discusses his new book, "The Strange Death of Republican America: Chronicles of a Collapsing Party" and the fall of the Republican party. Michael Lind offers commentary. Steve Clemons moderates.
So much for the death of the Republican party douche bag. This guy is so smart you would think he could predict the future. Too bad he can't and he didn't see the Republican blow out victory of 2010. The Dems got shelacked. Hahahahaha
i was always under the impresion that america was a country to the far right. as long as i can remember, america had always supported far right leaders around the world like pinochet. i cant remember a time when america didnt attack other govt's for refusing to trade with america, or a time when the cia would assasinate left wing leaders.
I hate it when people expect gifted writers to also be gifted media personalities.
The experience of writing is one of slow, thoughtful repose interjected with bursts of fast, furious creativity. A talking head must have the ability to keep his brain and his mouth moving in a fluid manner.
The two disciplines are opposites. I admire people with the intellectual flexibility it takes to be a successful media personality, but writers have the time to fully develop their theses.
You're right, it's tough to listen to at the 13 or 14 minute point. He does better during the q&a section.
Style questions aside, I think his analysis of the Bush presidency and the increasing radicalism of the conservative movement is right on the money. However, I think decalring the Republican party as dead is premature (although I would be glad to see them go).
This is the biggest pile of shit my eyes have set upon in ages.

@woowoo678 Probably because he was responsible for way too many things.
JR is living happily ever after: shame we can't say the same thing about the millions of people dead because of his administration's ineptitude.

a very smart guy, whose writing is great; but much of whose speaking style makes this footage almost unlistenable.
"um, uh, tiny phrase, pause, um, uh, tiny phrase, uh, um."
it begs for an edit just to pull those out -- but it would be a mammoth task.
