You can't win if you write off New England, or the pacific coast, black voters, or the young voters who are overwhelmingly registering as Democrats. You shouldn't look at Lincoln as a traitor. Chafee is a canary in a coal mine, if your moderates all die off or you start losing your moderates and calling them RINOs, it's a sign of a problems and serious lack of growth and stubborness to new ideas. If the Republican party wants to stay alive, it better shape up and adapt.

Chafee leaving the GOP is a blessing! I don't see why the RI GOP really cares. As a former RI'ander and now living in a Red State - life is great! Less taxes, much higher salary, much BIGGER house, friendlier neighbors, cheaper car insurance, more organized government, much nicer beaches, better school systems, kid & pet friendly. Linc Chafee pays no allegiance to party when he feels they are dead wrong, which is why he voted against the right-wing nuts in charge of his former party as often as he did. I hope he runs for Governor...he's got my vote if he does!

Giovanni Ciccione and Jon Scott are hurt by Lincoln Chafee's lack of loyalty to the GOP... It's a shame that people like them do not realize that politicians should put this country first, not political parties. I'm glad that Chafee realizes his loyalty does not belong to the GOP or the Democratic Party, but to America. A major problem in America is that most politicians are more loyal to their political party instead of their country.

2) The number of imcumbent Republicans lose their re-election bids.
