"Agricultural Collectives can be a potential way of overcoming the agrarian stress in India and other transition economies. The tradition of communities farming together has existed since ages in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Latin America. Lack of an institutional framework and necessary policy regulation apparently has stifled the growth of such collectives, which offers an avenue to farmers (small and marginalized) and poor women to overcome their economic and social distress.
This is a early stage case study from Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu where the people came together to form an agri collective. Its a documentation of why they came together, how they did it and what lies ahead?"
