[Onegin comes in with his manservant, Guillot, who carries the pistols.]
ONEGIN
I ask your pardon.
I'm a little late.

Act 2, Scene 2: On the banks of a wooded stream, early morning.
Onegin finally arrives. He and Lenski admit to themselves that the duel is pointless and they would prefer to laugh together than to fight, but honor must be satisfied. The duel is marked off, and Onegin shoots Lenski dead.
