Here is me playing the great Etude No. 1 by composer Heitor Villa Lobos. As far as I can tell this is the first rendition on youtube played pick style on an acoustic. By no means a flawless take... Definitely not easy music to play with a pick. Makes you appreciate the fact that classical players have so much freedom with their right hand.

See my youtube lesson on alternate picking across multiple strings (titled Guitar Lesson - Alternate Picking Chords and Arpeggios) which is a required technique in order to play these sorts of pieces pick style.

Anyway, not sure why the video ended up with such weird color tone...

Later,

Brian

  • lol wtf this guy wants to be in a metallica tribute band so bad

  • na paleta eimmm parabens

  • This is supposed to be a right hand study, which means the only purpose it's supposed to have is to develop the fingers. Playing with a pick just makes it sound muddy and contradicts it's intention. Not to mention how inefficient your left hand becomes with a pick

  • pretty neat.

    haters gonna hate.

  • Nice! A lot of work with a pick? :) Posted my version a while ago, a bit sloppy though. :)

  • pliz send chord this music,...

  • @cbrandom it's not about having to play with fingers, it is about it being sloppy. btw it's only 4 fingers.

  • @lamReptar hahahaha. go look up "hungarians do shred" and tell me if my picking is slow

  • @brownbigb Don't be a snob just because you prefer finger style rather than a pick. I bet you cannot do this with a pick. If it's one thing I've learned about classical players it's they are slow with a pick.
