Fast train acceleration

Few conventional diesel locomotives manage to get their train underway as well as this one, and this was on wet rails!

This is locomotive DC 4916, an EMD model G22AR (rebuilt G12A), a non-turbo 12-645C powered loco originally built in 1962 as DA 1453, rebuilt at DC 4916 in 1980, with upgraded engine (from 567 to 645) in 1986 and refurbished again for urban passenger work in 2006. EMD locos - built to last!

This scene was on Thursday 18th January, 2007, being train 9105, the 0653 morning express from Waitakere (New Zealand), departing Swanson station with the locomotive pushing at the rear.

The carriages in this video are rebuilt British MkII cars.

The train has a slightly jerky motion in the video because I filmed it at 10 frames per second instead of the usual 30, but other than that the video is played in real time.

Yes, the BB trains was more faster, 120KM/H normal travel and the reccord in france in 1960 was 180KM/H with the same BB trains.

Uk 220/221 voyagers accelerate as fast as that.
