i've seen raku kichizaemon work, the fellow kusakabe sensei speaks about. raku sensei works in a different manner, more a pinch pot which is then thinned and scraped when more leather hard, making a distinctive scraping noise.

This video is a bit confusing. He was making a coiled cup then switched to a solid lump of clay. don't know what the results were in either case.
