A quick video from the Chandra website regarding the Crab Nebula. date- 31.03.08 source- http://chandra.harvard.edu/resources/podcasts/sd.html

'In 1054 A.D., a star's death in the constellation Taurus was observed on Earth. Now, almost a thousand years later, a superdense neutron star left behind by the explosion is spewing out a blizzard of extremely high-energy particles into the expanding debris field known as the Crab Nebula.'

  • hey, that was 69 seconds!

  • Of all the nebulae in the sky, there is one that has a special status. It used to be said that every astronomy lecture had to include a picture of the Crab Nebula and all astronomers could be divided into two simple classes; those who studied the Crab Nebula and those who did not.

  • Very nice rose!

  • 2bsirius, I have always felt the pull of the Crab Nebula, though I cheated. Rather than becoming an astronomer first, I latched onto the x-ray photo, and the recorded movement caused by the neutron star inside. I have tried mightily to wrap my head around this incredible engine and it's environs, to only a tiny inkling of it's majesty, which doesn't bother me at all.

  • why can't i embed it in facebook? let me please!! :)

  • smartass, it starts at 0:09
