This video is without a doubt the "World's Most Dangerous, Reckless And Stupid FPV Flight", but is it the "World's Best Single FPV RC Helicopter Flight" too? ;-)
I'll rename the video immediately if you show me a better video!!! (SINGLE (=1, One) FLIGHT, REAL FPV= picture you are flying with)!!!

17th FPV helicopter flight

Live video feed, video from onboard camera gets transmitted in real time to the video goggles.
FPV= abbreviation for "First Person View"

I think a FPV video consists of:
1) Picture Quality (Vibrations, interference, signal loss,...)
An external HD camcorder on the plane is no real FPV, only the picture you are flying with counts! Of course HD is more beautiful but the title would be "Best FPV Flight Recorded with HD Onboard Camera" and not "Best FPV Flight"
2) Editing (Cutting, music,...)
3) Pilot skills (Flying 3D or basic aerobatics, size of the helicopter: bigger is easier, flybarless= easier)
4) Location (Grand Canyon, big city ....)
5) Creativity (Chasing cars, firing rockets, crazy stunts...)
6) Thrill (High speed low pass, almost crash....)
7) Scale Plane+ Cockpit: 3 extra points
Maybe a "risk factor" should be added to the rating: There is a huge difference if it is possible to see the plane/heli never again (over water, buildings, mountains) or if there is the danger to hurt people.
The loss of money is included in the "Scale plane/cockpit" factor.

My subjective rating of this video:
Picture quality 4 of 5
Editing 5/5
Pilot skills 4/5
Location 5/5
Creativity 3/5 ("Surfing" down a building)
Thrill 4/5
No scale plane/cockpit- no extra points 0/3
Sum: 25/33 points

Setup:
Standard Thunder Tiger Mini Titan E325
Aluminum rotor head
Aluminum washout base
Kontronik Jazz 40-06-18 ESC
Hacker A20-6XL motor without cooling fan (broken at a crash), 15 tooth pinion
Thunder Power 11,1V 3s 20C 2600mAh LiPo battery (weighs only 188 g!) or RockAmp 11,1V 3s 2200mAh 30C (193g, but very powerful!!!)
3x Thunder Tiger C1016 swash plate servos
1x Futaba S3114 tail servo
Robbe- Futaba GY-240 gyro
BBT Maniac 321 CFK blades, 2nd choice
Align Tail Rotor Blades for T-Rex 450 (plastic)
Reinforced tail rotor pushrod, with two 1,3mm CFK rods
Graupner- JR MX-16S, 40 Mhz transmitter (+ emergency booster)
Graupner - JR SMC-19 DS receiver with 1,75m antenna (Lamda/4)
Approx. 2600 rpm headspeed
+- 7° blade pitch

FPV Setup:
1,3 GHz 400 mW video transmitter from BEVRC (www.bevrc.com) with small Lawmate 3 dBi antenna
Lawmate 1,3 GHz (1.2, 1.3 GHz) video receiver with BEVRC 3 dBi antenna (upper plastic casing removed, should be better for 1280MHz)
Video receiver powered with 11,1V LiPo battery
1,2 or 1,3 GHz transmitters are legal in Austria with Radio (Ham) License between 1240 and 1300 MHz up to 200W
I'm using channel 9 (1280 MHz)
WDR700 (= KPC-DNR700PHB) PAL camera (Sony Super HADII CCD), factory (= default) settings, I've tried other settings but default is the best in my opinion
Fat Shark RCV922 Aviator Edition video goggles
Microphone
Weight FPV gear: approx. 100 g
Powering the FPV gear with the 3s flight battery, ferrite ring used against interference (I had some brightness problems, much better now!)

FPV Recording:
Canon MVX200i Mini DV PAL Camcorder (DV-AVI, 720x576, 25 fps)
Deinterlacing with "Alparysoft Deinterlace" (Advanced method, ME search enabled) ,saved with "Cedocida DV Codec" and Virtual Dub
Editing with Ulead Videostudio 11
Compressing with Xvid, Single Pass, Quantizer 2 (approx. 72 MB per minute), MP3 256 kps CBR Stereo
This is the best possible quality in my opinion (with this camera, transmitter setup)

AUW 973 g
Maximum flight time (hovering, slow flying): 10 min. (260 mAh/min energy consumption)
Average flight time: 7 min.
Range: approx. 800m with this setup

Costs:
Heli, camera approx. 1000 Euro (special setup for hard 3D flight)
Altogether approx. 2500 Euro (Flight Simulator, transmitter, batteries, charger, video goggles, FPV video recorder....)

Typical crash costs: 50- 300 Euro

  • Very nice quality vid. I've seen some fpv stuff but not this nice quality. I'd like to put something like this on my planes and helis. Thanks for your contribution. I don't have fpv but I have some low quality recorded high altitude flights. Check out my vids, look up "budd2407" "for add rc peeps".

  • echt cooles video!

ich find die musik auch voll cool

  • @DirtyJimFan I already made piroflips with this heli, but not with a FPV setup. It was only a simple camera in third person view. Watch my older videos.

I've bought a Logo 500 V-Stabi, let's see what we can do in the future :-D

I would say other videos are much better but they are not a single flight of a 3D helicopter, recorded as real FPV

  • @DirtyJimFan That's not exactly true, the angle of view is different (FOV) and there is interference in the video, or at least there can be interference.

Yes he is without a doubt the best technician! But a child can fly a tricopter, you know what I mean? ;-)

  • @muni86 Ya really want to impress me?....Lets see your video of you doing piro-flips with your FPV setup....lol.....just kidding of course, your videos are great, but there are others out there just as good.

  • @muni86 You are just grasping at straws and nitpicking....the only reason he isnt seeing what the gopro sees in HD is because the transmitters that are used for FPV can not transmit in HD...fact still remains, everything you see in his videos is exactly what he sees in his goggles minus being in HD.....now if you want to nitpick his tricopter,he actually designed and built his copter from scratch....he didnt just go buy some cookiecutter Align kit and strap some cameras to it.

  • @DirtyJimFan Yes exactly, a tricopter is as hard to fly as a 450 flybar 3D helicopter, including the knowledge, costs and flying skills......and of course the danger of decapitation ;-)

He can't see the HD picture in his video goggles (nobody can), so it is no real FPV. I love HD but the title would be "Best FPV flight recorded with HD onboard camera" and not "Best FPV flight". No matter if the picture is from the same camera.

  • @muni86 It is REAL FPV,he uses a GoPro wired to his video TX...what he sees is in each video...no other cameras are on his copter...he uses a tricopter, which is still VTOL just like a heli.

  • @DirtyJimFan Well, he is not flying a helicopter, it's not a single flight and no real FPV: FAIL ;-)
