Morley - Be the One

Official music video for Morley's "Be the One" from the album "Undivided".




This song was inspired by a lot of joy and faith in people, especially the youth.

Director and friend Damani Baker and I went to see Geoffrey Holder's movie, "Carmen and Geoffrey".
Mr. Holder said his response to the ugliness of mans inhumanity to man was and is to reveal the indisputable beauty and magic that humanity is capable of through art. He said, "I opened doors and I stood."

I've witnessed this kind of alchemy in the teenagers I get to work with from conflict zones, they're willingness to open doors that have been boarded up by generations before them and stand in a place of possibility amazes and inspires me.

I feel a lot of us feel like we have to apologize for our enthusiasm for life and turn the volume down on our inner voice to keep clear of judgement. I want to break out of that, especially at this time in our culture where public shaming seems to be at an all time high. I sing this song as much to myself as I do for anyone, and I dedicate it to Sophia Joy.
