In the early morning hours of December 26, 1997, a Bremerton, Wash., house went up in flames. In it was the shy, beloved minister's wife Dawn Hacheney. When the fire was extinguished, investigators found only her charred remains. Her husband Nick was visibly devastated by the loss. What investigators failed to note was that Dawn's lungs didn't contain smoke; she was dead before the fire began. So begins this true crime story that's unlike any other...

  • I just heard this on audiobook. It is fantastic!

  • Great book and an interesting and sad story. I know some of the poeple involved and I always wondered if a talented writer would tell this story; it is too weird and tragic not to be told.

  • This is why I hate religious nut jobs. This is also why I don't go to church, lol I don't want to be brainwashed like the fucking morons are.

  • WOW! I caught the end of an Evening Magazine story about this last night. I saw the photo of Nick and said out loud "I worked in Alaska with that guy" (on a floating processor in the 80s). What a terrible tragedy! Condolences to all whose lives were touched by this tragedy. I can't wait to read the book.

  • This book is likely to be a painful memory for many, but hopefully we can learn something from it. I believe Gregg to be a person interested in truth. I lived on Bainbridge Is. during this time and know many of those whose lives were turned upside down by the authoritarian deception that caused much of the blindness which allowed this to happen.

  • I cant wait to read it.I was a member of this church durring these events.I would realy like to see what the author has put together.

  • great read !!!!

  • Thanks for the supportive comments!

  • The only thing this trailer lacks is to show how well you write about motive in people who are highly devout, whether you share their spiritual convictions or not. To be able to effectively portray motive while neither proselytizing nor condescending is a rare and valuable skill. You have created an extremely delicate and nuanced portrayal that a lesser writer could never achieve. Congratulations, Gregg!

  • Good tease, Gregg.
