The lines you are quoting fit what I say. Atheists and intellect tell him that he will crush to the floor and die - so NOW, and only in the moment, an existing God yould be "useful" for him.
And the bible in the seat back is for those people who are afraid to fly anyway and thus pray to God so that he will "keep them in the sky" :)
