Actually ISRO too has a parallel hypersonic (SCRAMJET) project (as part of their TSTO - Two Stage To Orbit,RLV program
), they gonna use Rohini(sounding rocket) as booster to take the Tech Demonstrator to a cretain speed & height , then the TD would have leveled fight for few seconds, Sometime back i saw of the actual ground testing video, they are trying both Hydrogen & Hydro carbon as fuel. Sometime back i heard NAL too had some SCRAMJET project among others or is it same as DRDO???

Right my friend, ISRO programe is more advance and they will soon be testing reusable rocket, probably this year...
this will further reduce the cost of space flight....
DRDO is more for defence application... this will give India globel reach... DRDO programme director in one of the interview said that we wanted to recruit 500 more persons for the project...

can it evade Airborne laser (antiballistic laser)? I mean does it go to exo-atmosphere?

Techinically, it cannot, becose of the speed of laser... which travels at spped of light... But for that US will take at least 5 years or so.... yeah HSTDV will go to Exo atmostpher it works like space shuttle... DRDO has got plans to use it as cruise missile... dont know much about that... small scale model will be tested this year....
