the only way to stop that is if there were an officer on the corner of every block ready to stop every purse snatcher and drug dealer in the act. given what you've been saying though i seriously doubt thats something you would want. the police protect many people, their presence alone is a deterrent and therefore they protect, but they are also there to serve, and talking to victims, witnesses and "cleaning up" is service.

So who you going to call when someone breaks into your house, or attacks you if the police can't really protect you. I'm curious how you came to that though, were you a police officer at one point or have you spent your career working with police in some way? I'm not really sure you understand justice though, that isn't the job for the police it's the job of the courts to bring justice.

Josiah, the police can't really protect us. Probably you meant that the police can sometimes bring you justice. But in most cases, the police are a clean up crew or report takers.
