How did you construct your mountain?
pianomanmaestro 1 year ago
@pianomanmaestro Paper Mache over a wood and chicken wire frame, and carved "pink insulation" foam for the Tunnel entrances. The paper mache is covered with hobby snow adhered with white glue. Trees are inserted into plastic tubes glued into the paper mache. Next time I'll use foam for everything - more expensive but way less mess.

@rperego99 Cool! So you basicallty used chicken wire! and the Foam part for the entrances! I have been pertaining on Building a Mountain and having my Big Hauler Christmas Train around the base and all my villages on the side of the mountain! Do you build a wood frame for your mountain then add the wire and plaster?

@pianomanmaestro Correct - make a rough framework of sticks of wood, staple chicken wire over it shaping as desired, and then apply paper mache. Make the frame work strong as you'll find paper mache will pull significantly as it dries. Again, a little more expensive but you might look at the videos out there showing how to use stacked up foam insulation and then carving it.

I purchased a gondala like yours for my father's christmas tree village as well. We cant figure out how to shorten the length of it however. Did you shorten the length of the cables on yours? Any suggestions?

@sashapatches1 Just cut the wire. I used grub screw collets instead of tying knots so I could adjust the length easily.
