Last year a driver mowed some pedestrians down (they had the walk sign!). WMATA, in their infinite wisdom, decided that the installing the silly lights as a safety measure was better than holding the driver responsible. Finally, the driver was fired and charged with vehicular manslaughter. The silly lights were just a CYA move by Catoe.
