Great Musician for over 20 years ! Surely deserved many awards, but didnt get it.
But then he got a permanent place in the hearts of crores of people. That is really BIG.
He has brought some happy moments in everyones life - Hats off.

Illayaraja is far above padmashree or for that matter any awards....he concentrated only in music...The song for which ARR got oscar...wont even appear in the top 50 of AR's creation...so what is the meaning in this awards....

Very true. It would be a shame to bestow any award on ILAYARAJA ..after all these years. Nobody can hold a candle to the music maestro not even a r rehman. tell me how many of you would like to listen to a chikku bukku or a jai ho when all you need is a soothing soul touching song. agreed there have been many gana songs..but even those are green ..memorable ones..

Raja created a genre of music. No one will ever create that class again. Others can try to copy it, but cannot reporduce it. He's a genius man! He has due respect from a vast majority of people. He is 1st who got gold medal in Guitar session from trinity college of London. Wow! what an achievement for the one who hailed from a remote village. I salute u greatman.

Friend, I understand your pain. But, don't you think it will be a shame if he is bestowed with a "Padma Shri" or "Padma Bhushan" now after 34 years in the industry, nearly 1000 movies and innumerable achievements? Especially considering that people like Vivek and Akshay have already got a "Padma Shri". I think even a "Bharat Ratna" would not be sufficient to honor this legend, the greatest musician of our times. If they confer the title to him, it will only be an honor for the award.
