@mthivier I'm glad I wasn't alone about the thinking of the "Wednesday shows". I think the final nose dive that led to the cancellation definitely was because of the WackyWednesdays. (Even though I could actually take it back to how bad the show became under the writing of Ellen Weston and producing of John Conboy in 2003 - 04, the final nail in the coffin started with the WackyWednesdays).

@TheWhatsinaname -- UGH! The God-awful "Wednesday shows"! I'd forgotten about those. I do give them credit for trying to think outside of the box, but EEK, they were acutely painful to watch.

@mthivier The last time they mentioned that fact about the location of Ed's house and the Spaulding mansion was I think in 2005, around the time that Danny and Michelle renewed their vows for what seemed the umpteenth time. Later on in that year, Ed's house seemed to disappear even though Rick and Ed both still lived there and would completely disappear when they started the WackyWednesday idea.

It's fascinating how Roger is this all-seeing presence in Springfield. No one is truly safe from him. Many soaps have tried this type of writing but few have succeeded.

I remember that the fact that the Spaulding Mansion was right next-door to Ed and Rita's house played a big part in the storyline. (That's how Alan and Rita became friendly and ultimately had an affair, they used to meet and play tennis in the tennis court in the Spaulding backyard.) Do they still reference the fact that the Bauer and Spaulding houses are next-door to one another, does anyone know?
