@darthreven9999 "specifically the 381mm/50 1934 italian guns" source and evidence please
"high muzzle velocity" made it less effective at penetrating deck armor
"long and the ammo quality was poor resulting in higher dispersion of shots" can't hurt what you can't hit
"italian littorios were later fitted with radar fire directors" source. The 75cm/1kw E.C.3 could only give direction but had poor range and almost no resolution (couldn't tell objects apart)
Compare to Mark13 USN

0:25 nuke?

@darthreven9999 Sme with german shells they used slave labor to manufacture them resulting in many duds, The Yamato rarely fired her main battery the liners had to be replaced after only 100 rounds

@jers59 the 16/50 was a good gun i admit that but there were certain advantages to a 15 inch gun, specifically the 381mm/50 1934 italian guns which included longer effective range than the 16/50 and higher penetration power at those long ranges thanks to it' high muzzle velocity, however the only downsides is that the barrels only lasted half as long and the ammo quality was poor resulting in higher dispersion of shots, the italian littorios were later fitted with radar fire directors .

@darthreven9999 radar directed guns surpassed optic guided guns by wide margin the 16/50 was greatest BB gun ever as well as Mark 816/50 shell which was as powerful as jap 18.1 inch shell the Iowas were only super class of battleships ever built I will agree Italian littorios were best axis BB in the Atlantic and second best after IJN Yamato class old US cruiser Portland torpedoed in stern off guadalcanal and steaming in circles manage to obtain firing solution on jap destroyer and sink it
-
@jers59 no i have to disagree the germans are credited with having far superior optics equipment than the allies up until the final days of ww2. the reason bismarck could not fire accurately in its final battle was because its rudder was damaged and the ship as a result sailed in circles, the turrets had a hard time tracking targets while going in circles. 16 inch guns are powerful but the 381mm/50 1934 guns used on littorio BB's have higher penetration and range than 16 inch guns in general.
-
@darthreven9999 Yes and no way did the bismarck have the best range finder fitted to BB that belongs to USN the USS West Virginia firing at night hit the IJN Yamashiro at night with its first salvo the greatest salvo ever fired by BB Only US BB,s could manuever radically and keep firing solution. bismarck failed to score 1 hit in its last battle and could not stop 6 obsolete biplanes a dismal record. 16/50guns were greatest BB guns ever built and 5/38 the best secondary gun ever installed on BB.
-
@jers59 so if you're suggesting that the bismarck is an obsolete design for that time then thats like saying that the HMS hood is from the stone age. get your facts straight the bismarck was designed based on the kaiser class ww1 design BUT it included completely modern technology and is still know today to of had the best warship gun rangefinders of ww2. the bismarck design was also slightly influenced by the italian vittorio veneto design in the gun and hull designs. it is an upgraded littorio

@G777GUN bismark had planes but it took a direct hit to the catapault so it couldnt launch them then near the end it took a direct hit in the hangar killing all people nd destroying all planes

Yeah well beeing a loyal nazi, like Goering was and Doernitz wasnt, surely helped by getting your idea trough to Hitler. Sadly Goering was a brainless fat pig with VERY bad ideas.

@KuhanVincek
Oops. Oh well.
If the Graf Zepplin was launched with the Bismarck full of BF 109's then the outcome of Bismarck would have been different. Thats the only significant thing that i can think of that would have prevented Bismarcks downfall in the end. Submarines and ships were all busy. Planes couldnt reach Bismarck.
Imagine a Swordfish getting attacked by a BF 109.
