QUOTES ON ATHEISM

A material resurrection seems strange, and even absurd, except for purposes of punishment; and all punishment which is to revenge rather than to correct, must be morally wrong. And when the world is at an end, what moral or warning purpose can eternal tortures answer?
-- Lord Byron

I recall the story of the philosopher and the theologian. The two were engaged in a disputation and the theologian used the old quip about a philosopher being like a blind man, in a dark room, looking for a black cat -- which wasn't there. "That may be," said the philosopher; but a theologian would have found it."
-- Julian Huxley

If we are going to teach "creation science" . . . as an alternative to evolution, then we should also teach the stork theory as an alternative to biological reproduction.
-- Judith Hayes

Philosophy is questions that may never be answered. Religion is answers that may never be questioned.
-- Anonymous

Blasphemy? No, it is not blasphemy. If God is as vast as that, He is above blasphemy; if He is as little as that, He is beneath it.
-- Mark Twain

The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.
-- Bertrand Russell

The declaration which says that God visits the sins of the fathers upon the children . . . is contrary to every principle of moral justice.
-- Thomas Paine

I have little confidence in any enterprise or business or investment that promises dividends only after the death of the stockholders.
-- Robert G. Ingersoll

Well, I believe that there's somebody out there who watches over us. Unfortunately, it's the government.
-- Woody Allen

If we believe absurdities, we shall commit atrocities.
-- Voltaire

Pray, v. To ask that the laws of the universe be annulled in behalf of a single petitioner confessedly unworthy.

Saint, n. A dead sinner revised and edited.
-- Ambrose Bierce "The Devil's Dictionary"

My earlier views of the unsoundness of the Christian scheme of salvation and the human origin of the scriptures have become clearer and stronger with advancing years, and I see no reason for thinking I shall ever change them.
-- Abraham Lincoln

Difference in Opinions hath cost many Millions of Lives: For instance, whether Flesh be Bread, or Bread be Flesh; Whether the Juice of a certain Berry be Blood or Wine.
--Jonathan Swift

I don't know that atheists should be regarded as citizens, nor should they be regarded as patriotic. This is one nation under God.
-- George H. W. Bush

  • You have the sort of face I could punch over and over and over and over and over and over.

  • @stratocaster1986able I guess we all now know what kind of person you are.

  • @largo64-when i posted my comments about Reagan i was stating facts, not putting atheists down.my comments were appropriate because they state there are good Godly christians like Reagan.there are good christians and good atheists. Reagan stopped the building of a highway going thru a forest when he was governor.the liberal media always take great leaders out of context.the liberal media does nothing but lie.

  • @slr1238 And, of course, the conservative media like Fox tell the absolute truth . . . after Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes tell them what the truth IS.

  • Is your atheism based upon anything in reality other than your unreconciled and sadly confused emotional disaster that some might call your experience on this earth? Perhaps that sounds harsh, it is. But to be fair, I too am a human being, a wreck. The thing is, atheism is pouring acid in a wound. It undoes what needs to be rebuilt, it hides what needs to be recognized in all of us. It works to destroy, by way of boosting the rational and silencing the intuitive, any hope of human wholeness.

  • @circusOFprecision Atheism is based ONLY on reality, not a lot of comforting myths.

  • @circusOFprecision Atheism is simply a lack of belief in any god. All Buddhists are atheists to your god. You are an atheist to all the other thousands of gods out there - we just go one step further believing no god. How is Atheism based on a confused disaster? That’s a ridiculous thing to say. Atheism does not pour acid on any wound. Atheists simply want proof before they believe. Show us peer tested, real proof -and we will believe you - otherwise shut the fuck up moron.

  • @slr1238 You're basically an idiot.

  • @slr1238 Why did you think this comment was appropriate here? I didn't quote Reagan at all. But I could. Regarding saving the redwood forest in California he said, "A tree is a tree. How many do you need to look at?" If he had had his way, maybe there would be none to look at anymore.

  • Ronald Reagan is a christian who had many great accomplishments.he won the cold war,cut taxes across the board and helped eliminate many nuclear weapons.atheists may have quotes but christians like Reagan accomplished good things for the world.

  • @pleximarz Books of faith prove nothing either. A case of the pot calling the kettle black.
