The Sea Point promenade is approximately 7 km's in distance, starting at the stunning Radisson hotel/restaurant and stretching all the way to Bantry Bay, where there are beautiful views of the Twelve Apostles, Lion's Head and Table Mountain. It is a very popular walk, jog or run to take before or after work.
A walk on the promenade is very entertaining... You can watch the waves roll in, people at play in the park, sitting having picnics on the grass, playing on the beach swimming in the sea, playing putt-putt, flying kites, surfing, doing Yoga, Thi-chi or other strength training in small groups.
You often see people playing soccer, cycling, rollerblading and riding their skate board. Couples love this walk of course, it gives them a great opportunity to catch up whilst doing some exercise. Something more unusual is mothers jogging with their babies in a special pram made for cross-training.
Dog owners make use of the promenade to play catch the ball with their dogs. Most people are very good about cleaning up after their dogs, but it is still advisable to look where you walk! You could also check out how many dog owners look just like their dogs!
O yes, the changes of bumping into the last person you expected to see is huge, and has happened to me quite a few times. Cape Town is indeed a very small place.
There are benches all along the way where you can sit down to read a book or just bask in the sun watching to ships sailing past...
