oh i know but the sign is to tell people or other umpires its alive ball and called foul tip. according to what i read i think your right its just a swinging strike i am not even close enough to know how to do the score sheet.
cause there two reasons for it. 1. its not dead ball and people need to know 2. its also to say the ball hit the bat and nick into glove. to understand and put in score sheet. you have to make the call.

I'm not having a go at you here, but you score a called strike as C, foul as X and swinging strike or foul tip as S. Is this incorrect?

A foul tip is not scored on the scoresheet, it is scored as a swinging strike. People know it's a live ball surely?

nope not at all. foul tip the ball is alive and in play.
foul ball is dead.
