Another obscurity comin' up...my version of Hank Swatley's "Oakie Boogie", a track that at one time many a blue moon ago was spinnin' around in European rock'n roll circles as a 'supposed to be' track that Elvis had cut for SUN before he left, which of course is just that...a rumour!!
I recorded this version sometime in the late ´70s, if my memory doesn't fail me, after hearing the original version, released on the small and obscure Aaron label in 1959 (b/w "I Can't Help It"). One of those thousands upon thousands of obscure outtakes on Rockabilly that flourished during the immortal ´50s. Simple and straight forward, both as far as music and lyrics are concerned, but..hey..quite enjoyable to tap your toes to if you ain't got something else on your mind! Enjoy...

  • I may be wrong, but i've allways thought that the original version of this song was done by Jack Guthrie in the 40's. But what the heck, your version is great! What i like in your music is that you're doin' it your own style. Keep rockin', Hank!

  • @sriiski Hey buddy! You're excused, but we're talking about two different tunes here! Leon Jerry ”Jack” Guthrie's version of "Oakie Boogie" (Capitol 341), was written by Lehman Monroe ”Johnny” Tyler & was a hit for J.G. at #3 in 1947. While 'my' version was written by Hank Swatley! But, like you said, what the heck!! Thanks a lot for the flattering comments, I sure do appreciate it!! And thumbs up for realising that I always try to do my stuff my own way! Stay cool!! Best always, Hank C...

  • Strewth! Everything you record has that authentic 'just walked in off the street to make a demo' freshness to it. Too many artistes end up sounding fat and comfortable but you never sound anything less than dedicated to performing with the same vigour you've always had. Great stuff. When is your next tour in England?

  • Great stuff Hank!!!
