Brian Bromberg, Rick Braun, Jeff Lorber, Dave Weckl, and Gary Meek live at the Tokyo Blue Note playing music from Brian Bromberg's Downright Upright CD.
it is amplified..that's a gallien- krueger setup behind him. modern amps can be set to sound very 'acoustic', and of course there are amps made specifically for piezo-type pups. in any case, you bet he sounds awesome! what a talent...
I really think we have here one of the most progressive bassists of our time, both virtuoso on upright and electric, a rare ability. I am a fan, thanks for being such an inspiration Mr. Bromberg!
In a lot of jazz tracks with an upright bass, you can't even hear it unless you turn the volume up a lot. You not only hear him loud and clear, but he has such a unique and recognizable richness to his sound whether he's in the lead or backup. I don't think it sounds like an electric at all--he's just taken existing technology to bring out his own personal voice. By the way, that's totally Rick Braun. He's on the cd so it makes sense
