Welcome everyone to my latest list.
If you're looking to hear Green Hill, Chemical Plant, or Ice Cap, you're in the wrong place.
This list will feature songs from obscure Sonic games or prototype songs that were cut from the final release.

There will not be any songs from either the Japanese or North American release of Sonic CD. I would only be able to feature a few songs on the list and Sonic CD has way too many good songs to choose from.

Keep in mind, it's not always easy to determine which Sonic games are obscure and which are mainstream.

If you don't see any songs from a particular game, don't assume it's because I don't like them. It's far more likely that I thought the game was too mainstream and/or had too much good music to choose from.

Finally, this is not a Top 25 list. The songs featured on this list are not listed in any particular order.

  • Correction, Knuckles Chaotix was 32-bit, not 16 bit

  • @IAmDeafSoGiveMeADola Yes, but the music was still done in GYM format, which the Genesis used, so in that sense, I consider it 16-bit (the music)

  • the chaotix composers are already known: Junko Shiratsu, Mariko Nanba

  • @goniochromism Thanks for that. I changed the comment.

  • I believe the unused track in Mean bean Machine was a leftover track from Puyo Puyo.

  • @luigibarqs I figured it was a song from Puyo Puyo, but they remade it in Mean Bean Machine sound samples, so I figure they had some intention of using it at some point.

  • Brave was actually Puyo Puyo's main theme, which is in Japan what this game was before it came on the NA/European market... Having played Puyo Puyo ages ago, I recall it was the game's opening/boss presentation theme, but I'm unsure.

  • @KingMeteorStudios Actually, that's an understatement, Chaotix uses a script playback driver we know as SMPS (Sample Music Playback System), which is controlled by the Mega Drive's sub-processor "Zilog Z80" (an 8-bit processor), it controls the YM2612 and PSG on the Mega Drive hardware, and controls PWM channels on the 32x hardware. So strictly speaking, there's no defined way to decipher the bit type of music as it's mixed hardware, the same for regular Mega Drive games.

  • To be honest, I've heard all of these before, in games or on the internet. Even the unused "brave" song.

  • For the first song you showed. I recently found my family's gamegear, and I noticed I had Sonic, so I started it up, and BAM! That level!

  • FUCK YES brave from puyo puyo :3

  • You deserve soo much credit from all the sonic fans out there, you really did and awesome job.

    Thank you.

  • Just gonna go around commenting on your lists and such now :P

    1. OH HELL YES! F*cking love Underground Zone's theme. Hated the boss at one point (still do, kinda)

    2. Not very familiar with Knuckles Chaotix, but this is a neat song

    3. I used to have this game on Game Gear. Pretty cool tune.

    4. Loved playing this on Gems Collection. It's got some cool tunes.

    5. Not too familiar with Mean Bean Machine, but hey, this is pretty cool for an unused track.

  • The Underground Zone song was later remixed into high quality and added as an extra to the Sonic Gems museum section, under the title "Sonic Goes UG Mix." Widdle bit of trivia, for ya. :B Great compilation!
