@Negrosoldier They probably didn't, because they were surrounded by zombies. To answer who the were is they are probably just spontanius characters, to sort of help get the game started, or give suspense.

it actually explains, it is a virus from wasps or something from south america that some dude that got his village attacked because that was where they made the virus so they could make super humans, but it got out of hand so a senator wiped out teh village and 2 of the people from the village are in the mall and spread the virus out
