Me, Cam and my cousin Tim out fishing for some Dogfish up in whitefish lake chain MN.
I had caught one first closely followed by tim. I then decided to pull out my camera and film #3 getting caught, she proved quite the challenge for Cam and Tim by snapping both their lines!

Dogfish are considered a trash fish and an invasive species. DNR asks that you dispose of any Dogfish you may catch so we go out and hunt them down in hopes of improving the local game fishing. (Also because its tons of fun!)

  • nice bowfin! little correction though, bowfin arent an invasive species, they've been swimming in minnesota waters for 150 million years. the dnr does not ask that you kill them, if you don't believe me, go through the regulations and you won't find that law. in fact, while bowfin may be ugly, they are benificial to have in your lake, the bowfin eat more young-of-the-year carp than any other fish will, and they prevent stunting in panfish. not trying to come off as a dick, just pointing that out

  • @mnangler thats not what ive always been told. and while you may be right because i know thay are actually prehistoric fish i know that they also eat walleye eggs and the inlet we caught these in is actually known for its loon breeding and these dogfish are actually in there attempting to eat the loon babies. or so i heard. in my mind they are just as bad as carp and just as nasty. not good to eat but plenty of fun to catch...

  • @mnangler so wether or not to kill them is the question...i think that the small amount of good they do is over shadowed by the bad they do and the damage they do to good game fish. at least in that area. but yeah il look into it more. thanks for the comment though! and hey if you are right still no worries cuz as we alluded to in the video, there are PLENTY more where these 3 came from. we spotted at least 2 more in the short period of time we were there that day. happy fishin!

  • @mnangler (btw, there IS a difference between being a dick and just pointing out good info, you sir are just pointing out good info, no worries)
