Pax - Firefly

From Sixties Peru this South American hard rock band kick up a riot . with both traditional and Western influences. A stylish set of heavy and hairy psychedelic rock with poppy outbursts. Leader Pico Aguirre was previously with Los Shains and this album dates from 1970.

Pax is the Latin word for peace. The band were formed by former Los Shains' leader 'Pico' Ego Aguirre. Jaime Moreno was brother of the famous Peruvian pop singer Gustavo 'Hit' Moreno. U.S.A.-born Mark Aguilar was a multi-instrumentalist living in Lima at the time and a friend of Moreno's. Miguel Flores, from Cuzco, was a superb drummer and a charismatic musician. Gerardo Rojas handled vocals on one cut Mr. Skin.

Their repertoire was hard rock / heavy metal with vocals in English. On the Dark Rose compilation there's a great cover of Smoke On The Water and decent versions of Radar Love and Mr. Skin. Their other finest moments including the opening cut Firefly, with some superb guitar moments; Dark Rose, which has a melodramatic introduction and lots of guitar histrionics; Exorcism, with its funky guitar work and gruffer vocals and Sittin' On My Head, which sported another good guitar intro.

Along with Tarkus they were the only hard rock / heavy metal orientated group from Peru. The original line-up played from 1970-72, but there were several subsequent line-ups.

Buena banda. Recuerdo que los escuche por primera en Radio Miraflores por el año 1973 creo, con Junkie sin pasado. Yo era un fan del hard rock, sobre todo de Deep Purple, y Pax era el unico representante de esa vertiente en esa epoca. Luego los vi 2 veces en vivo, cuando estaban con Gerardo Manuel, en la epoca del single Radar Love, una vez en el Olivar y otra en la cancha del Meliton Carbajal (no recuerdo que año era). Gracias Pico y Pax por esas buenas epocas.

NO CREO QUE HAYA HABIDO OTRO GRUPO SUDAMERICANO QUE POR LO MENOS IGUALE A PAX, VAYA QUE BANDAZA, TENDRAN QUE EXORCISARME PARA SACARME DE LA CABEZA LA MUSICA DE PAX, CUANTO MAS ESCUCHO MAS DIFICIL SERÀ, GRACIAS A LA INFLUENCIA SUBLIMINAL APARECIERON GRUPOS COMO: black sabbath, deep purple, led zeppelin, the who, the doors, etc. YA VEN COMO ESTOY AFECTADO....QUE VIVA EL ROCK!!!!!!

Los Saicos y Pax PIONEROS DEL PUNK ROCK Y HEAVY METAL ACABO DE LEER que la canción Demolición de Los Saicos es de 1965 y que la canción Firefly de Pax es de 1969 de un LP ANTES DEL ÁLBUM asu osea que esas bandas del Perú fueron los primeros ya que Ramones es del 75 y Black Sabbath del 70 es un hecho que esas bandas son el orgullo peruano.

PD: Lastima que hoy en día solo existan grupillos de cumbia-pop y reggaeton que son la vergüenza del Perú que por respeto a Los Saicos y Pax no mencionare.

muy buenos musicos peruanos ,los recuerdo tenaia 16 y me compre su lp x boogi del chiquero los vi en vivo por primera vez en la 40 de la av peru con salaverry smp y los voy a ver el 10 de setiembre en la 36 av lima smp buen sonido y luces deberian hacer mas seguido estos conciertos en smp es un pedido.... hay mucha gente rockera aqui pero en un local mas grande por la primera zona av peru. o en ingenieria ,saludos
