Libro Rojo de Montserrat, siglo XIV

Rubric: There follows another song, as a round dance:

Star wondrously shining like a radiant sunbeam
on the serrated mountain, hear the people.

All people come together, rejoicing:
rich and poor, young and old,
climb this mountain to see with their own eyes,
and return from it filled with grace.

Rulers and magnates of royal stock,
the mighty of the world, pleading indulgence,
proclaim their sins, beating their breast,
and cry out on bended knee: Hail Mary.

Prelates and barons, counts and illustrious persons,
all [male] religious and also priests,
soldiers, merchants, citizens, sailors,
townspeople and fishermen are offering praise here.

Peasants, ploughmen and also scribes,
advocates, stone-masons and all carpenters,
tailors and shoemakers and also weavers,
all craftsmen give thanks here.

Queens, countesses, illustrious ladies of
power and maidens, young girls,
virgins, old women and widows together,
climb the mountain, and also [female] religious.

The community is gathered here to present
offerings, to give thanks and gifts,
enriching this house, so that all may see
and return in joy, adorned with salvation.

Let us all, of both sexes beseeching,
cleansing our minds - pray devoutly
to the glorious virgin, mother of mercy,
that we may find true grace in heaven.

  • Yes, Paniagua. Also issued in the US by Musical Heritage Society from the original Hispavox recording of La Música en Cataluña hasta el siglo XIV - Colección de Música Antigua Española / 3, Capella Musical y Escolonía de Santa Cruz del Valle de los Caídos & Atrium Musicae - Luis Lozano & Gregorio Paniagua, dir., 1968. Hispavox HHS 2.

  • Lo es sin duda, la mejor versión. Dirige Gregorio Paniagua.

  • I rlly love this piece of music.

  • mola
