Elvis Presley A Fool Such As I
Written by Bill Trader in 1952. Elvis recorded it June 10, 1958 at RCAs Nashville studios, while on leave from the Army. Take #9 was selected for release. The bass singer was Ray Walker of the Jordanaires. It was his first session with Elvis. The single peaked at #2 on Billboards Hot 100 chart during its 15 weeks on the chart and it reached #16 on the rhythm & blues chart. It was #1 for 5 weeks in England, and it sold over a million copies. It was the A-side to I Need Your Love Tonight. It is available on Elvis: Worldwide 50 Gold Award Hits, Vol. 1, 50,000,000 Elvis Fans Cant Be Wrong-Elvis Gold Records, Vol. 2, The Top Ten Hits, Great Country Songs, The King of Rock n Roll-The Complete 50s Masters, and Artist of the Century.

(Now and then there's a fool such as I)
Pardon me, if Im sentimental
When we say goodbye
Don't be angry with me should I cry
When you're gone, yet Ill dream
A little dream as years go by
Now and then there's a fool such as I

Now and then there's a fool such as I am over you
You taught me how to love
And now you say that we are through
I'm a fool, but Ill love you dear
Until the day I die
Now and then there's a fool such as I

Now and then there's a fool such as I am over you
You taught me how to love
And now you say that we are through
I'm a fool, but Ill love you dear
Until the day I die
Now and then there's a fool such as I
Now and then there's a fool such as I
Now and then there's a fool such as I

  • @kevcad No. The bass singer is Ray Walker. But The King could do this too.

    Sorry about my english.

  • Is it him singing the really low notes at the beginning?

  • @ChrisYonts Chris, I'm 68 and my wife is 65. We love this song, as a matter of fact, it probably is my favorite by Elvis. I really go into Elvis while I was in the army 1965 -67.

  • Saw a concert vid where he instead said "you taught me how to milk a cow" by the end. Wish they did it for the studio version too.

  • Cannot beat the KING!!!!!

  • @MandiiMustache Really? Do tell !

  • I'm 46, and my wife is 41. I love this song.

  • That's the great Hank Garland on guitar, he was also on several other Elvis hits such as Little Sister.

  • Awesome, for anyone into a little more rockin' version, the cover by Batmobile is also pretty great :D

  • What a great song!! No wonder he is and always be "THE KING"! This a great version of the Hank Snow song!!!!!

  • This was originally recorded by Hank Snow, followed by Tommy Edwards...all three versions are outstanding although I must say, Elvis' version is the best overall. Long live the King!
