When I was little, I walked by a store and heard this tune from a radio. I was totally mesmerized and had to stop until the whole piece finished. That’s before I knew what classical music was. It has been flowing in my mind ever since. With an exotic story shrouded in Arabic myth, it is probably the most romantic tune in all classical masterpieces.

This is the best movement of Scheherazade and my favorite orchestral piece!

@pirates120 Me too, age 3-4 in the 1950's; when my child's record of it was ruined, I received one with the Cleveland Symphony under George Szell. I'd give anything to find that early 50's recording; lyrics were the story of Aladdin and his Magic Lamp, but the music was taken from all of Sheherazade, on 2 78 rpm's as I recall. I grew up to be a bagpipe maker. Modal music forever!

Wow, totally just tried to play this on cello before listening to it... came close to it... not quite as fast, but damn it's beautiful.

I'm suprised I'm not seeing any comments saying "Thumbs up if The Thief and the Cobbler brought you here" I guess that's why they call it an unknown gem.

I played this piece in my orchestra before. Is really nice music :)

This is being played at my wedding (when I get married)
i find that music is a far better alternative as compared to chain smoking in dealing with depression. chain smoking makes one more depressed. this music makes me feel a lot better.
