@Satfgk Well, those are all open backed headphones. They need to be driven with expensive, multi thousand dollar amplifier setups, etc. The US Ed 8 can work phenomenally with portable media devices, like the iPod, and have good sound isolation, both inwards and outwards. The HD800, T1, LCD2, etc., are designed specifically for use in the home; these ones can be used out and at home. Reviews on Headfi show that even if they aren't 100% as good as the ones you listed, they're within class.

not the best in the world, FAR, FAR from it. You pay for incredible performance, but mostly design and materials. Beyer T1, HD 800, Lcd-2, he-6, stax are all superior phones.
And it is too bad that these phones are so expensive mainly because of the material used to make it. I would have preferred them spend the money on the sound.
This Edition 8 are only 30 Ohms, whereas my Sennheiser HD800 are 300 Ohms. Meaning, the 300 ohms require more power to use, thus, can't be useable on a portable mp3 player. However, I tried these Edition 8's at the store with my iphone and they sounded great, really. Now imagine if you had a headphone amp with these, they would be killer. The low to mid range headphone amps would be good enough since these don't require much power to use.
They are to dear, But they would be worth $1,000 the extra $495 just kills it for me.
