A while back I had reviewed an earlier model of the Hanwei "Federschwert" on myArmoury.com. Hanwei has since updated the model, and this is a follow up highlighting the newer version. (Review by Bill Grandy)

  • These uaually break.

Happens alot. Fencers in Sweden dont use Hanwei anymore.Too low quality.

I have seen plenty of photos of broken Hanwei Feders. And the piece thats broken off has come flying throu the room, finally hitting the wall.

    These are dangerous.

There are better ones out there.

  • Nice, good review, giving me good consideration for a beginning purchase.

  • Considering I'm planning on buying one of these very soon, this review was very helpful.

  • Re: your comment on replacement for the tip, I've found that archery blunts fit pretty snug. Put a little bit of tape on the blade itself before putting on the blunt and taping it down to get the best security. Overall they work pretty well, but it does give you a round and flat tip, rather than the slim, rounded tip these came with. I haven't found that to be much of a problem, but we've been using archery blunts on practice rapiers for well over a decade, so maybe I'm just used to them. ;)

  • Great Bill! I just ordered two of these.

  • Cheers, good review and fencing!

  • thanks for putting this up

  • very good review! I'v been looking at those for quit some time now

  • Hi Bill! This is a great way to review a product that has unique qualities that can only be demonstrated instead of explained. I can tell you put a lot of work into the review editing. It looks like a much better product now. Great job.
