Initial use and test clip of Steadicam Merlin with Canon HV 20+ WD-H43 wide angle lens on the slopes. The air turbulence played havoc to the balance, as expected. It requires considerable effort to keep it pointing in one direction.

  • right next to midway?

  • I think so

  • haha, pretty cool! the speed and air aspects would be pretty tough to deal with as i can see. nice job compensating though. i have a Steadicam Pilot with an EX1 and windy days can still cause problems even though the rig has some weight to it. oh well. have you ever fallen while doing this? hope not. keep it up bro!!!

  • Thanks , and no I haven't fallen . . . yet, few very close calls though. I think with the Flyer/EX-1 setup, you'd also need vest/arm . Would be mighty bulky and looks awkward on the slope I'd say.

  • Good job mate, i lovd it

  • Thanks

  • I find it much more difficult to operate a Merlin rig than a full Steadicam rig with harness, articulated spring arm and the camera sled. I own a VeriZoom Aviator MX rig.

  • @luv2cheergal

    Its Tollhouse, I think.

  • nice job!

  • oooo acadamy

  • The bottom line is - there is not 1 HD camera on the market that is good for movment like this without using steadi cam because image stabilization on all HD cameras hasn't been no were near perfected yet - this is what people dont fully understand yet... Even using stabilization option on any hd camera you still get massive gltichy playback shake if filming while moving around normally.. It sucks but spend a litlle more on steadi cam then ur problems resolved.

  • i do have the vest and arm for the Pilot and *no* i wont be hitting the slopes anytime soon...haha! ive only skied once in my life and that was about 30 years ago. it would be a recipe for sure dissaster if i did it now! ill leave it up to you to do all of the real action sequences. thanks!
