Without Family in Canada we made him part of ours. He had been a Naval Officer WW2, a Police Officer in South Africa and an attendant at Colony Farm Forensics. When retired he purchased a condo in my building. I asked if he would likely move again - humbly he stated "this is my last stop" For ten years he and others (who had no available family) would come together on almost all special occasions. Our Beloved surrogate Grandfather kept his word about the last stop. There came a day he would not answer the door or phone. Frantic I climbed over the balcony wall. Once over and on to his balcony I found him like many times before sitting in his Lazy Boy, It was different this time - he had left us and went it alone. About a month before he left us we had a barbeque and almost all of our neighbors came. We did not know this special occasion with him would be our last. We will always love and miss you ... those family dinners we always had are no more for we can not bare the sight of that empty chair ... love and respect forever our kind Sir ...
