A plow anchor like that one is designed to have an anchor rode (rope) shackled to the end of the long arm with a couple feet or more of chain. The boat rising up and down on swells will lift the chain, and not unhook the anchor from the bottom. The other hole at the front of the anchor is to attach a trip line with a bouy (float). Grab it, pull, and your anchor is free of the bottom, then you pull the anchor in using the rode. Your way, is a goofy way, but I guess, each to his own. If it works.

What happens if the current is really strong? the zip tie will break and you wont be able to anchor.
