The rest of the engine is fine, just a freak flaw or heat related crack that corroded through early.
I'll be fully rebuilding the old one anyway.

you can double the mileage since this car has been ran hard all its life. towing etc..

your right, this car towed a caravan for a lot of its life, and I've been using it to tow up to 2 tons at a time for 4 years.

The anti-freeze that was reccomended to me by the retailer was for new engines with different alloys or something. it just exaggerated a bigger problem.
the 2 holes are not linked together by a crack so all I can think it was would be a thin casting with dross or other contaminants in the metal that were dissolved prematurely.

My van has 160000 on it all city driving and its a 1987 not a problem with it. I had a 92 park ave that had 276000 miles on it when I sold it still ran strong and didnt didnt leak or burn a drop of anything. Again that was city my 91 pick up had 200000 on it all city and towing on it ran strong didnt have issues either so I guess I just have good luck with cars.

its not high miles if they were all done on a highway, but because the car is from 1991 (17 or so years) was probably lots of hard acceleration (City driving)
Thats hard on any car.
flex plate, also known as fake flywheel ;)
Odd that antifreeze can eat through aluminum just like that :o Unless Ed poked the holes without knowing it when changing spark plugs.
