"Triumphant Spirit: America's World War II Generation Speaks"
Triumphant Spirit is a series of programs that feature the stories of a generation that fought and won the Second World War. No matter how they fought the war or where - on the home front or the battlefield - each veteran featured in the series contributed valiantly to a victory that changed the 20th century. They tell their stories in their own words. They are stories of actions and deeds that not only shaped the outcome of the war, but the very world we live in today.
In this film Max Brudner of the U.S. Army 186th Field Artillery Unit talks about his experiences during WWII.
My father, Samuel Strauss was also with the 186th Field Artillery Batallion

Hey, this was my father's artillery battalion! He was assigned to it at Normandy as an initial replacement, one of the few Southern boys. It was an activated NY National Guard battalion, as this man's accent makes obvious. Oh, yeah ... I understand completely what he is talking about, though I was not a cannoneer. Pity the producers didn't know artillery comes in BATTALIONS, not UNITS. Great preparation, guys. You did your homework well - not. :(
