As part of the national "Save Service" movement, a group of over 20 concerned citizens of Austin gathered to speak with Senator Cornyn and discuss the value of AmeriCorps & National Service and why it should NOT be cut by Congress from the budget.
We represented many different organizations and service programs, including but not limited to, Austin Habitat for Humanity, City Year, College Forward, Capital Area Food Bank, Frontsteps, American YouthWorks, ACE, AmeriCorps VISTA and AmeriCorps NCCC.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to special circumstances, Senator Cornyn's office was closed when we arrived unannounced at noon (we did NOT have an appointment scheduled). We were able to address our concerns later that day with Cornyn's Deputy Regional Director for Central Texas, who was very receptive and cordial in our afternoon meeting.
