Actually, I heard in the 2/20/90 episode that that same speed run was achieved in around late December 1989, as Alex says that a contestant less than 2 months ago won his/her car in 26 seconds.

Actually, that was 25 seconds, done by Stan Jointer, just about a couple weeks before he returned for the 1990 Tournament of Champions.
