@torbwrc The United States is actually starting a tourism promotion programme this year. The main problem with tourism in the United States is that it is incredibly hard to get a tourist visa. Since 9/11 it has become much harder to obtain one, and this in turn has shifted a lot of Asian tourists to Europe. The United States is also a new country, relative to Europe, and historical sights are big attractions that the US simply lacks. Tourism advert campaigns have a mixed track record.

@JohnRhysMusician Think how much larger the US is in terms of area and population, and yet it only has double the amount of tourists visiting the UK and significantly less than France. Maybe they need an advert or two. . . . .

PM Evil Camera is in the news today expressing his concerns about the issue of carrier bags used to carry shopping home from supermarkets; people are losing their jobs & their homes & this man is fretting about carrier bags. We have the technology for biodegradable bags but no fast method of removing crooks who have found their way into government, even voting doesn't work the main parties have same evil agenda. Wow David you are right on. England get some pride in your country. You can make it great or not. It is up to you. You want to be losers or winners. It's all in your hands. You have everything other countries would love to have. Great history, hero's, Royalty that are a credit to you. A lovely country. Be proud uplift your great country. Build it into one of the greatest countries in the world. You have all the tools go for it.

Ever notice how the United States government never spends on tourism promotion? Yet it remains one of the top 5 most visited countries. Individual private tourism bureaus funded by industry spend, but not the federal government. If a place is a cool place to be folks will come and invest. No advert is going to make people come.
