I had that coin, too, and I just sold it on eBay for $31 bucks. It was just sitting around the house, so I decided to sell it. It sold just fine on eBay.

It has been doctored to have eye appeal. It has been Whizzed. Chemically enhanced to make
it look shinny. I honestly does not look silver. The rim and shoulder looks like those China replicas... Your coin maybe worth something. So hold on to it and have a pro look it over. Also what devalues it more is the bezel that houses it. It has dented and made the coin have surface damages. It has been cleaned. I am not sure the year of it is a rare pop date. Please do not take my advice as sound.

@benjaminja77 Like when Artemus Gordon tossed a Liberty Seated Dollar to James West and it magically turned into a Morgan Dollar.

The coin was cleaned. Worth about $34 9/13/11

@cinciaucyions The coin is in perfect shape. Very rare to see because the eagle's stomach area and wings get worn out because of how high they are and the cheeck area gets very worn out. But this coin is in phenomenal shape. The only problem is that someone cleaned it and left the terrible marks you see on the coin but in all my years of collecting coins, I would give it an ms-63 because of it's prestine condition and luster.

The coin in the case is an 1879 Morgan dollar. The mint mark is located underneath the wreath at the bottom below the wreath and below the tail feathers of the reverse side. Since there is no mint mark, it means it was minted in Philadelphia. Other mints would have mint markings of D, S, CC, or O, for Denver, San Francisco, Carson City, or New Orleans respectively. Being a common year from my 13 year coin collecting expertise, I would grade the coin as probably EF-48.

1879 is a common date, and if you look closely at the suface of the coin, there are faint lines that indicate its been harshly cleaned. So I would grade the coin AU (almost Uncirculated) and cleaned.
