I would say lack of education and lack of money could be partly attributed to criminality but not the sole link.

i think anyone in prison should have to work for their stay ...earn their way....listen to how much money it costs to keep prisoners locked up....tax payers pay the majority of it

I spent sometime in prison when I was younger... Education is sorely lacking and it's still a problem now... Everything in life is education. It's really what's separating the classes... If people were better educated, there would be less chance of wrong doing when were older...

Some of the best prison wardens started out as educators, not corrections experts.

These prisoners missed a part of the life education that you get when you're a teen. So when they come into prison as adults, they need to have that missing education replaced.

Start by making them work every day.
