Are you pitching gold? Yeah of course gold is never going to be worthless, but gold bubbles do occur, especially during recessions, and people who were already hurting and poured their money into gold are going to take another hit as soon as the economy turns around. The value of gold isn't based on its rarity anymore, like oil its price is determined by demand. Since demand is extremely high right now, the price of gold is high. Simple as that

If it gets to a point where one would be able to make transactions where metals are treated as currency in stores, how would the "value structure" be allocated since you can't cut a gold coin in half? Maybe banks will start issuing true gold backed notes if you leave bullion in a bank? I plan on getting more silver this month.

Hey Demcad, What do you feel would be the best local currency to own during the crash of the dollar? I was thinking silver dollars would be a good way to go. Maybe pennies before 1981? It seems silver dollars are about 15 bucks. Would you buy some of those just to have as local currency? Thanks for any info you may have:)
