As previously mentioned, the fuel is nothing more than off-the-shelf carbeurator cleaner, $3 in the automotive chemical aisle. i just put the can in and a servo pushes the top. That's it. The pilot is a stripped-down grill lighter, re-fillable with butane. Quite simple, but not the best for high winds.

ATTENTION: to all who wanted to see Nelson III apart, there is now a video for that (search: Nelson III: the breakdown)

Because of the feedback I've been getting, I think I'll post a video on making a Nelson type robot. I'll probably take Nelson III apart and show the basic components being put back together.

holy crap dude dude! this is really impressive! you should make a shell that you can put on top of it, with holes for the antenna and where the fire sprays out! and also im impressed by how far the flame goes! VERY nice work.

Thanks! Although a "shell" would look great, (and I would like one) it's just one more thing to go wrong. Nelson II caught fire once because fuel got behind the heat shield. I have thought about it, though.

thank you! there were two "nelson" models before this one, and i used those to see what i liked and what i didn't. nelson iii has the features i liked, while fixing the problems i didn't like.
