Despite a military leadership scandal that's gripping the U.S., President Obama says it will be business as usual in Afghanistan. He has already selected General David Patraeus to replace Stanley McChrystal, as the leader of the Afghan campaign. McChrystal was fired after he criticised the White House administration in a magazine article. The scandal has many asking why a top military official did an interview with a publication like Rolling Stone in the first place. RT's military analyst Evgeny Khrushchev tells us who he thinks will benefit from this fall from grace.

  • Maybe The General actually wanted to create a situation which would relieve him of the insane and unjust mission called Afghanistan. Consider how a decent self respecting general could support their troops guarding poppy fields and the heroin trade. He probably wanted out.

  • business as usual in afgha = protecting the drug trade

  • I think this also happened to General Ackbar...

  • The General got sick of the BS lies! Look at the trail of who has resigned. Read the Grand Chess Board. Who ever controls Afghanistan will control the TAPI pipeline=11-20 trillion dolllars worth of gas and oil. Trillions in Minerals and Trillions in the World Herion business. Notice how we arn't doing anything about the poppy fields. Our government is doing business with criminals. Takes one to know one I guess

  • Give me a break!!!

McChrystal and his Aides know the drill - nothing is "off the record " when you are in the military. If by chance, McChrystal didn't know, then he deserved to lose his job for being dense.

  • What trap, what setup? What scandal? The Rolling Stone article from a main stream media bull tabloid rock mag that's only been good for flipping pages and looking at the pictures. They've got to find something good to sell a junk mag. I'LL never buy it again and I'm burning the ones I have. That they would spread gossip and entrap one of our finest military leaders and the admisistration would discipline him over it's crasy. They'll form the new Afghan Strategy over Playboy's Miss July

  • @quinton01 You don't have to be a neo con to agree. Nato expansion will not happen under Obama. Every war is fought on false pretenses. But Iraq is an old and ending war. I don't think citing it as a reason for disdain is valid. If you disagree fine. If you don't want to be involved fine. That is enough. Disdain is seen through a prizim of many colors. It can be returned to you is you leave your allies behind.

  • @kungfooed

I can only assume, that for yourself this is an issue of tribalism, one of partisan loyalties. I were a neo-liberal, I'd simply offer that war is not the answer, especially on false pretenses, if I were a 'neo-con' you'd find us in perfect harmony on the matter. I am neither. I love the truth. That is it. That is all.

Simply put, Stan McCrystal is not a 'good guy', to carry his water is crazy! I implore you to seek the true purpose of this war in regards to NATO expansion.

  • @quinton01 That is reaching quite a bit. It seems far off the mark.

  • Obama never understood the neccessary commitment needed to do a counter insurgency. Obama campaigned on how Afgan was the just neccessary war, but then when he was elected, he was more concerned with domestic affairs. McCrystal was annoyed by the attitude in the WH for a long time. His interview was part frustration, and part tactic. McCrystal may have forgotten that their is a line he should not cross even though most people would agree with him. Maybe he didn't care anymore.

  • it is not a trap ... just that Mac have his appointment got into his head. He forgot he is appointed commander in chief in Afghanistan NOT Commander in Chief of the USA.

How in the hell did he managed to rise to the position of General with this mentality is scary.
