@ReighnDrac they do. They can even hatch ducks eggs and adopt the babies. color doesn't matter.

Beautiful Brahma. I had a few and they were so friendly never aggressive. About the surrogate part. My goose abandoned her egg so my banty hen finished the job. It was an awesome experience. After about 4 weeks old the gosling would follow geese around and behind her was the mother hen!! They all got along even to this day!! Mother's Day is a little confusing tho!! Ha ha but all are great!!

Do all mother hens brood on surrogate eggs, even if there's no rooster present?

@ReighnDrac I don't know about all, there was no rooster here. when the chickens are laying, afterwards some go off looking for food and don't seem to bother coming back until the next day when they are ready to lay again others stay on the eggs much longer.
