Fire call came out around 10:25pm on 1-18-10 to a house fire on Finch St in Decatur, IL. The house was completely on fire in a few min. It looks like everyone got out ok, i'm still waiting on updates for that.

-Update- 55-year-old Charles Mathes died in the fire. During a coroner's inquest Wednesday morning, a jury ruled his death accidental. Mathes was alive for a short time during the fire. He died of smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire was ruled undetermined, though, meaning investigators can't say for sure what caused it.

  • What I saw was No water pressure, also

Those rooms (walls) were Oxygen Saturated, Along with the chairs and other things, Meaning the fire would went up 4-5times faster,

    Good job

  • @MYFreeSpeach4U

What you don't see is the other firefighters with water hoses on the other sides of the home. They were on both sides and the front off the house. I just shot video from the front of the home.

  • Hickory Point Fire (Forsyth) was the responding agency. Warrensburg, Argenta-Oreana, and Maroa responded as mutual aid. The structure was already fully involved when it was paged out. One gentleman perished in the fire. It was reported he was in ill health and a number of oxygen bottles were in the house, probably contributing to the fire. No cause or origin has been determined at this time.

  • @yourdougie Thanks for the fire departments, I did not get a good look, I was trying to just get there.

  • It's sad to say that I just found out that a man was in the home, but did not make it out. I'm still trying to find out more now. 1-19-10

  • I heard the deckgun on the engine to the left wasn't working right. The guys on the attack line to the right couldn't advance toward the house by further due to power lines arcing across the entire front yard. They had to go around the back of the neighbor's house to get a better knockdown.

    Great video, as always

  • This is sad. The day before there was on eout in Chestnut where a guy and his dog died in. I guess springfield just had one it was on last nights news. So sad.
