Australian Caught with Heroin in Thailand

An Australian man is under arrest in Thailand after getting caught with heroin at an international airport. Andrew Hood says he needed the drug money to support his family.

36-year-old Andrew Hood stands accused of smuggling three kilograms of heroin from Thailand into Australia.

The Australian was stopped by customs as he was about to board a flight home, according to Thai officials.

He had 12 packages of the drug strapped to his body.

Answering reporter's questions he said he was unemployed and in need of the money.

Why did you do?

[Andrew Hood, Accused Drug Smuggler]:
"Money, I needed money, mate."

[Reporter]:
How do you feel?

[Andrew Hood, Accused Drug Smuggler]:
"Devastated."

The drugs are estimated to have a street value of just under 350,000 dollars.

If Hood is found guilty he could face the death penalty by lethal injection.
