Did you know that power windows have killed children by strangulation? Many cars only have the auto-reverse feature in the one-touch mode. This means that the majority of cars in our country do not have auto-reverse on the windows in the rear seats of the vehicle, where children sit. Picture this, you leave your child in the car to run the groceries into the house and go back out. You leave the key in the ignition so that your child can watch their DVD and leave the window open so that they won't be too hot. But if your child decides to call for you or lean out the window for some other reason and leans on the power window button with their knee...well, you know the rest. Never leave children alone in cars! Not even for a minute!!

  • Actually, even new cars do not necessarily have the technology that makes the window reverse direction when it comes in contact with an obstruction. And on many vehicles the auto reverse is only on the FRONT windows and only in the "express" or one-touch mode. To test your windows, you can take a water bottle and try to roll the window up with it obstructing the way. Hint: If it's a sports top bottle, don't point it toward you... I found out the hard way! :-)

  • That's always a good point; do not leave children unattended in a car, particularly if the keys are still in the ignition.

  • Most cars wont allow you to opperate the windows without the keys in the ignition, so take the keys out, and that can't happen. Heat stoke and hypothermia are bigger issues with kids and cars.
